We gather everything you need to know before visiting Indonesia

Visitors planning to travel to Indonesia must obtain a visa from one of the Indonesian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months as well as a valid return ticket. The immigration officer at the port of entry may ask the passenger to produce any necessary documents (such as hotel reservation and proof of finance). To boost its economy, starting from April 2015, Indonesia has opened visa-free travel to foreigners from an additional 30 countries. Indonesia had previously exempted 15 countries from visa requirements for short visits. These are Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Morocco, Peru and Ecuador. The 30 new countries whose citizens do not need a visa for short visits are :

Indonesia Business Visas

These visas are for people visiting Indonesia for normal business activities (including attending a conference or seminar) which do not involve taking up employment or receiving any payments whilst in Indonesia.There are two types of Indonesian business visas available:

Single Entry Business Visa

Maximum length of stay is 60 days.Extensions can be applied for and obtained in Indonesia from the Immigration Authorities.

Multiple Entry Business Visa

Valid for up to 12 (twelve) months.Issued upon authorization of the Immigration Office in Indonesia.It is suggested that the applicant’s counterpart in Indonesia should apply locally on his/her behalf. Based on a written approval from the Immigration Authority, the applicant will then apply for the issuance of visa by submitting the required documents stated below.

Required Documents

  1. Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the proposed date of entry into Indonesia.
  2. Fully completed visa application form.
  3. One coloured passport size photograph.
  4. Evidence that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover the cost of applicant’s intended stay in Indonesia (eg. a Bank Statement).

Together with:

For Business

  1. Two supporting letters, one each from the applicant’s company and sponsor/counterpart in Indonesia, setting out the reason and duration of the proposed visit, and responsibility for incurred costs.
  2. Copy of written approval from the Immigration Office in Jakarta, Indonesia if the duration of business is to exceed 60 days.

To attend a conference/seminar

A letter of invitation from the conference host setting out details, including nature, duration and programme of the conference/seminar.

Business visas are issued within five to six working days from receipt of application providing all documents are in o1rder. Validity of visa will be three months from the date of issue.

Locally know as KITAS, employment visas are for foreign nationals who want to work in Indonesia.You will need a sponsorship from an Indonesian based company.The sponsoring company must supply the following documents:

  1. Copy of the company’s act
  2. Copy of the company’s locality letter
  3. Copy of the company’s tax number (NPWP)
  4. Copy of the company’s business license letter (SIUP)
  5. Organisation structure
  6. Copy of the employee contract (for companies employing foreigner)
  7. Copy of the director’s identity card
  8. Copy of the report to the labor department adapted by UU no. 17, 1981
  9. Copy of the KTP of an Indonesian work colleague
  10. 20 company letter heads, signed by the company director, and stamped with the company stamp.

You must supply the following documents:

  1. Copy of the your passport
  2. Curriculum Vitae and references
  3. Passport sized photographs with red backgrounds (4 x 6 = 21 pcs, 3 x 4 = 8 pcs, 2 x 3 = 6 pcs)

If you want to include family members:

  1. Copy of the wife’s and children’s passport
  2. Copy of the marriage certificate
  3. Copy of the children’s birth certificates
  4. Passport sized photographs (4 x 6 = 12 pcs, 3 x 4 = 4 pcs, 2 x 3 = 4 pcs)
  5. Copy of the family register

The above documents need to be send to Jakarta for approval. If your application is approved you will receiving a “telex visa”, this process can take up 30 days before a decision is made and the visa granted. when the “telex visa” is issued you can apply for the real visa at the Indonesian embassy or consulate overseas, nearest to you. You need to pay in local currencies for the visa application and the duration of the visa process in the country where you apply for the visa is depending on the embassy/consulate.

When you get your visa , you must return to Indonesia and then report to immigration maximum 7 days within the arrival date. We can do all this for you and guide you in processing. The process can take up within 30 days in immigration offices, when finished you will receive the following documents :

  1. KITAS, limited stay permit card
  2. Blue Book, control book from immigration
  3. Yellow Book, certificate from the police
  4. STM, report certificate from the police
  5. IKTA, working permit

The above documents are valid for one year and you will need to pay USD1200 to the Indonesia government.

What if I need to go overseas? You must apply exit re-entry permit in immigration and paying fiscal duties directly at the airport; IDR 1.000.000.

You will get 60 days free visit , monthly extendable in immigration to a total stay of 6 months.

A single entry Social-Culture Visa is valid if presented within 3 (three) months from the date of issuance.

It will be granted to conduct socio-culture activities (family gathering, education, sport, etc.) A Social Culture Visa could be extended in Indonesia and could be converted into a Temporary Stay Visa.

The purpose of this visa is to visit friends / relationships, social – cultural or educational exchange. With this visa you are not allowed to do business activities in Indonesia or to take up employment. Sponsorship is required by an Indonesian citizen, for instance in Bali.

The following documents are required:

Your Indonesian sponsor needs to supply:

  1. Sponsorship letter
  2. Photocopy of sponsor’s identity card
  3. Copy of sponsor’s family register
  4. Copy of sponsor’s bank account statements

You need to supply:

  1. A photocopy of your passport
  2. 2 (two) passport sized photographs

A Social – Cultural Visa must be used within 3 (three) months from the date of issue. Passport must be valid for at least 6 (six) months after the date of entry.

To be eligible for your Bali retirement visa, you should be:

  • Be 55 years old or older.

Following documents required to process your retirement visa:

  • Copy of your passport (valid min 18 months).
  • Proof of holding a pension or deposit bank statement. (Minimum USD18,000 in your saving account)
  • Health insurance and life insurance.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Proof of rental agreement.
  • Statement letter that you will employ an Indonesian while your stay in Bali.
  • Passport photos sized 4 cm x 6 cm = 6 pcs, 3 cm x 4 cm =6 pcs, 2 cm x 3 cm =6 pcs (red background).

Citizens from 68 countries listed below may apply for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) for a length of stay of 30 days at designated entry points by paying US$35. Such visa may be extended once for another 30 days.

Approval-Requiring Nations

Citizens who want to get multiple entry visa or want to have visa extendable up to 5 times or citizens who are not eligible for visa free entry or visa on arrival need to apply for a visa at an Indonesian embassy or consulate. Nationals from 10 following countries require an approval from Immigration Office in Indonesia before travelling for Business, Tourist and Social Visits purposes (this policy is called Indonesian Calling Visa):
